I started this on April 1st, but didn't want to post about it in case that I abandoned this idea [ insert embarrassed emoji here ]. But so far so good, so I decided i would post about it and help keep me more accountable.
So my goal for this month was to yoga every day this month, and my even more ambitious goal was to work on my personal practice every day this month, as well as try a new different yoga class every day this month. This has almost happened everyday haha.
So here's a recap of the month so far:
4.1.16:
Class: So the first day started a little rough, didn't do an actual class but I used my Yoga for splits guide while watching the World Figure Skating Championships, a.k.a. watching those girls be so flexible made me a little envious, and motivated to work on my stretching while watching tv. Both actions aren't very yoga like, I know. Stretching while watching TV and wishing I could do what someone else could do are not very yoga like, as I've been learning in my teacher training. But during the commercial breaks, I did kind of close my eyes and breathe through the stretches so that counts as something right?
20 min of yoga hamstring stretches from Elle.Fit.Active ( Get Splits PDF)
Personal: 10 min of practicing my sun salutations, there was lots of this this month because I've been working on teaching the salutations in training.
4.2.16
Class: I love taking a class at the studio on Saturday mornings, it's always a great way to start my weekend and if i take the 8 am class it gets me up and going early.
75 mins vinyasa flow class, at the studio
Personal: 20 mins, Kind of the same as yesterday, more Elle.Fit.Active hamstring stretches, and also working on my sun salutations
4.3.16
Class: no class :( Does going ice skating count?
Personal: 20 mins, these first few days were kind of the same, and boring, it was the weekend and I had a lot of stuff going on, but I did try to at least do a few sun salutations each day
4.4.16
Class: 31 mins online class One of my favorite places to take classes online is via the codyapp . Right now I working on building a sequence for my yoga teacher training. For my sequence I've picked dancer's pose as a peak pose ( for now, ill probably change my mind 50 times) So I found a great dancers flow on the cody app, and I really loved how she used the strap for this class. The class itself, was pretty challenging! But I liked it! I definitely want to try doing this class a few more times! Best part was that you can take it for free here: Meghan Currie Dance with Dancers Pose though, I'm definitely contemplating buying the whole package, because I really like her teaching style/classes!
Personal: 30 mins, sun salutes and flow
4.5.16
Class: 30 mins online class Kettletoning and yoga Tone It Up workout, Not a typical yoga workout, I combined my daily workout and my yoga workout for time purposes. But I think its always interesting to see how some non yoga workouts incorporate yoga moves into their workouts. I can't decide how I feel about them from a yoga standpoint, but I did like this workout! And if you like using kettlebells that I definitely recommend trying this workout! Kettlebells, Toning, and Yoga
Personal: 30 mins, sun salutes and dancing warrior flow
4.6.16
Class: 15 mins online class One of my other favorite places to take classes online is oneoeight.com I loveeee all of the classes on this site. Unfortunately due to time constraints and interruptions, I didnt have time to complete the whole class but I did the Ardha Chandrasana Flow, and I really loveeed it! I love Simon Parks classes, and Ardha Chandrasana is one of my favorite poses, so I really liked this class, or the 15 mins I got to take of it!
Personal: 20 mins, sun salutes A,B, and C, dancing warrior flow and spine warmup
4.7.16
Class: 15 mins online class did another 15 mins of the same class as yesterday, one of these days Ill have time to do the whole thing without getting interrupted..
Personal: 20 mins sun salutes and YTT sequence practice
4.8.16
Class: 18 mins online class Another class on oneoeight.com, I went for a run with my dog this day and was already kind of sore, so I did the Runners Relief Flow. I've done this one before, and I always really enjoy it! Great for stretching out the hamstrings and hips after a run, and just a great quick class.
Personal: 30 mins, sun salutes and flow
4.9.16
Class: 90 mins studio class I did the 9:30 class, which is vinyasa flow and yoga nidra, I am really interested in yoga nidra so I always love taking this class. A great flow, with a nice relaxing end.
Personal: 30 mins, sun salutes and 20 min sequence practice for YTT
4.10.16
for some reason I dont have anything written down for this day, so im not actually sure if I practiced or not, I'm gonna say no sadly, I know I had skating practice that day, and it was a sunday, so for some reason I always struggle with practicing on Sundays
4.11.16
Class: 16 mins online class Another class on oneoeight.com, I was practicing at night, while my bf was making dinner haha, so I did the mellow out flow
Personal: 20 mins, sun salutes and flow
4.12.16
Class: 20 mins online class, another night time practice, after work, so I did the flow to let go on 108.com
Personal: 15 mins, sun salutes and flow
4.13.16
Class: 30 mins online class Another class on oneoeight.com, this time it was a morning practice, it was the morning warm up flow, I liked it, wasn't my favorite morning flow. My hips and hammies are pretty tight when i get up in the morning, and need a little more gentle cohersing and warming up, then this flow provided, but I was into this flow by the end when I was a little more warmed up. Easy Morning Flow
Personal: 5 mins, sun salutes
4.14.16
Class: 10 mins online class , honestly, I don't have anything written down for thursday, and I cant remember if i did a class, I really think that I did, but I cant't remember which one. I also may have done the class I have written down for tomorrow today. The more I think about it, the more I think that was the case. So see below.
Personal: 20 mins, sun salutes and flow, I know i practiced sun salutes and worked a lot on my sequence
4.15.16
Class: 30 mins online class Did an online class from one of my favorite online yogis, Yoga with Adriene. I did day one of her 30 days of yoga challenge! I really love her and her classes, I love how she doesnt take herself too seriously, but just enough for a good yoga practice! Day 1 Ease into it
75 mins studio class: relax and unwind class. We always take this the friday before our training weekend, its a nice relaxing class, where you work alot more on working out muscle tension and kinks than doing flows, which is always a great change of pace
Personal: 20 mins, sun salutes and flow
4.16.16
Class: 90 mins studio class , vinyasa flow and yoga nidra, a great class, I thought I was going to be tired because the night before we were up late making mala necklaces and studying for the weekend, but I was actually really energized in the morning! AND I held my crow for a few seconds- which is a breakthrough for me! Idk if its because my hips were rly warmed up or what but I really felt that weight shifting distribution and was able to hang out for a few seconds.
Personal: 30 mins, sun salutes and flow, probably spent more time, but 9am-5pm was my yoga training, and then I spent the night working on my sequence.
4.17.16
Class: 80 mins we didnt take a studio class, because we were practice teaching out 20 min sequences, I took four 20 min sequences from other students in my training. I also taught for 20 mins
Personal: 20 mins, see above, I'm counting this as both :)
4.18.16
Class: 33 mins Honestly, I was pretty sore today after yesterday, too many chatturungas haha so I wasn't planning on practicing at all, but I got home tonight, after dinner, and felt like I needed to move a little bit, so I did day 2 of the 30 days of yoga with yoga with adriene. As usual, glad that I did. A nice easy practice, got me moving but was still ok doing before bed
Personal: 5 mins Well like I said above, I wasnt really planning on practicing today, I know, but I did the above, and then I just threw in acouple extra poses at the end that I felt I needed- alittle puppy pose, cow face pose, and some nice suppta bodha konasana ( probably spelt wrong sorry, ill spell check that later )
4.19.16
Class: 23 mins class online, I did day 3 of 30 days of yoga with Yoga with Adriene: Forget What You Know
It was a night practice again, so I was glad that todays class wasn't too intense or super energizing, some nice yoga core work, and some balancing exercising I may steal for my sequence.
Personal: 30 mins or so, practicing my sequence and trying some new add ons to it, now that I've gotten the sun salutes down pretty good ( though they'll always be a work in progress ) Im working on getting a litter more creative with the flows and building on to the sun salutes
